Through reading Jenkins, it sheds light on an entirely new and different aspect which exists now in the media industry due to the vast forms of different technology. For so long it was believed that only the big industries with large sums of money could succeed in producing films. With their vast resources at their disposal, they were the sole entities to gain from media production. Luckily, now in the modern age all of that has changed; new technology such as social media and cheaper filming equipment has given access to countless people who want to pursue the path that waits with film. In times prior to the existence of the internet, media was slowly shared. Technology was restricted to the television and in only certain periods of the day people were given access to politics, sports and different pieces of the news. The birth of the internet has drastically changed the way society has viewed media. Now with the advancements of the television, information is shared constantly; 24/7 non-stop. Also as a result of technology has become so accessible to people it allows everyone to spread information. Since anyone can share information, the relationship between fans and product owners has also resulted in a shift of power. Fans now can give their input of the media they say and media producers can respond from the feedback they got. Fan culture in the last four years has witnessed an expansion of fan fiction, opening a new window to media production. The creativity of fans applied to the media they admire has resulted in fan fiction; a spin off of the original material. This has captured the attention of media producers who are the creators of material to see the vast creativity of the fans. Scenes such as Toy Wars (2002); a fan made film where people creating fan fiction using their Star Wars models has captured the attention of many. Implementing their own creativity, they have created a bottom-up momentum where people who are not corporations can now have some power.
Group assessment so far
Our group process was to create a video which would be relate-able to any students who were inquiring about attending a career fair. It is known many students prior to attending a career fair could be somewhat timid about attending. Our video showcases a typical scenario an individual would expect to encounter when they start this journey. The two major milestones my group has accomplished as of now is finishing the paper on time and also working collaboratively together as a group. Working as a group can be an issue for most people; finding out how to get along and finding out everybody’s strengths and weaknesses can also be a task in itself. The best part of our group is that we’ve been able to get a considerable amount of work done for this project with ease. However on the contrary the issue our group has encountered has been revolved around the editing. Editing for any group which is involved with media production is a product which must be done well. Having to get this portion successfully completed for the project is by far the most important aspect. The digital tools we have reviewed in class have been detrimental to the creation of our video. I am the individual who is responsible for the editing, and since I am doing it I use the tools which I am familiar with and I prefer. Whenever I have had to create a video for a project I have always resorted to using Windows Movie Maker. The process to create a video through this software has always come easy to me and therefor I have resulted to using this one specifically. On terms of receiving feedback for our production, we have not yet done so. I feel as though getting responses on our work now is too early considering the progress we’ve made. I’m looking towards getting feedback when our product is at its finest.
media in final project
Since this project consists of advertising the career center at school, the utilities in play must have some factor in how it will aid the project. There a multiple tools which can aid the production of an advertisement; pictures, music, and clips. Every picture, music track and movie clip matters significantly if used properly within the advertisement. The following choices I have made on the advertisement I would like to incorporate in my project video plays a specific purpose. The main objective at hand is to advertise the career center offered at Rutgers and so it is imperative not to deviate from the message the group is trying to get across. Other advertisements lose track of the message they are trying to convey because they overwhelm their video with too many video clips, pictures and music tracks. These are simply small details which are meant to simply compliment the work of the advertisement video and are make parts of the advertisement stand out. The music specifically that I plan to implement on my group video will simply serve to play in the background. I feel as though I don’t want the music to overwhelm the audience and steal their attention from the main message. The video clips I chose play another small factor. The majority of the video has to surround the students themselves, and therefore I don’t want to implement a large amount of videos for two reasons; there is a short window of time to get the message of the video across and it might take up a large amount of time. Therefore the amount of videos in the group video will be limited in order to get directly to the point of the advertisement. Last but not least is the incorporation of pictures. Similar to the video clips photos must be kept to a minimum so it does not steal the attention away from the audience.
Starting group projects
This week was the first week I had to start a project with my group concerning video editing. However before working with them, in class we were introduced to the different parts which would be involved in our project. At first in class we had learned the different key filming techniques which are involved in the industry which we would have to apply to our video. After taking note of these multiple tools in film we went out into the hall to test them ourselves. I learned a great deal about my group and look forward to making this project; also expecting it to turn out well. I myself am very proficient in using movie making programs and at the start felt very confident in this assignment. Luckily, the group I’m working with is easy to get along with and quick thinkers. Henry turns out to be the most suitable candidate to film the assignment while Shannon and Daniele seem pretty outgoing enough to take part in the filming. Movie editing has never been a problem for me, adding affects to videos should take a relatively short amount of time for me; so I feel as though I would have enough time to help contribute in the video and filming.

To start of my top five review list of midterm blogs we begin at number five. The friendship without borders blog should have enough content in it to liven up the traveler in all of us. I myself wish to see more parts of the world but can’t in this point in time. This blog I find to be incredibly useful not only to me but to anyone wanting to learn the do’s and don’ts of travelling. I’m a huge gamer and always have been. Since I’ve gotten to college however it’s been more and more difficult to sit down and play for some time. This blog comes in at number four because it almost fills that hunger I’ve been having as a gamer to finally get some time in to play. Right in the middle of my first year in college all the stress starts to build up. With all the pressures from different classes and workloads, one such as myself, feels compelled to go take a retreat. This blog comes in at number three in my list because it provides a small example of a getaway. I thought a blog about vacationing was a phenomenal idea. The minute I got on this blog it drew my attention just by the way it was designed and later through reading the content. With a paradise oriented blog, I can easily see myself recommending this to anyone looking for a getaway.

I don’t come from a horse riding background, I’ve never ridden a horse nor have I ever come up and personal to one. One of the main reasons this blog made my top five and ranked in at number 2 was because I knew nothing about it. This was an insightful look into a world I knew nothing about; horseback riding. The most I’ve ever seen of it was on the TV as I’m flipping through channels. However now that I have the time to sit down and really pay attention to this blog, I am shown a sport which is really quite fascinating. If anyone is looking for something which will show them a fresh perspective to the sport, look no further.

This blog comes in at my list at number 1 because of a few reasons. First of all I can relate to it, being a young man myself, I can relate to the topics he discusses in his blog. Second of all it I found it to be incredibly funny, everything from the content to the pictures was hilarious to read and kept me entertained throughout. I must admit this blog comes in at number one because of some bias, I felt it was tailored for me as a young man who is can easily relate to the content of this blog. review of my midterm
For my midterm blog I knew I had to create something which I would enjoy. Obviously like most bloggers, the content would have to consist of a topic which I was not only passionate about but also something I felt I could talk about in great length. For most people it might be somewhat difficult to find a topic they are passionate about and are also willing to discuss in front of others; due to if the audience will be able to relate to it. However I felt my blog was quite easy for me to talk about and was a topic that everybody could enjoy and relate to. For this reason I felt compelled to start a Netflix review blog. The premise of my blog was simple, review and talk about episodes of television series for the readers. I knew my target audience would be virtually limitless since there are billions of people around the world who watch television. However I knew not everyone watches the same programs but none the less I still had a massive audience to appeal to considering how many people tune into popular television series. I felt confident that I would be able to draw a considerable sized audience, because in the end people enjoy discussing the content which entertains them. People around the world such as me become immersed in the shows they watch and are quite loyal fans. Since I feel the need to discuss the episodes of television series I watch with anyone who will listen; I created my Netflix review blog as an outlet. Specifically it is a Netflix review blog because I am a person with a busy schedule who does not often have time to sit down and watch shows; I’m constantly on the go or on my laptop. So for anyone who is like me, either always has to catch because their busy or watching shows on the go; this blog is just for them.

My experience in doing this video assignment for this week went very well. For a long time I was very familiar with using Windows Movie Maker and when the opportunity again presented itself this week I was incredibly fortunate. Years ago I was first exposed to using this program, so when I had to use it again, I felt comfortable in my abilities and knew this portion of the assignment would be easier. The new program which I had not been familiar with was Screen-O-matic. I have seen many times in previous YouTube videos, people using software which does the exact same thing and always wondered how they went about filming what was on their screen. I feel as if this is a handy tool to have at your disposal and is great to use for tutorials and reviews, but mostly if you want to show someone what you are seeing from your point of view. The software was easy to master and luckily I did not face any complications. I feel the most useful part of this program is the ability to start new trials to make a well done final video. This week included a reading which was titled “Playing Politics: Videogames for Politics, Activism, and Advocacy” by Ian Bogost. The premise of the article is how video games in the modern era can have an effect on the world of politics, considering they have a powerful influence on society. With there being such a large population of people who play video games, an opportunity to draw attention to matters impacting the world right now is presented. If game makers could produce a game which involves a storyline that has to do with real life scenarios; prevention of diseases in third world countries or the rapid rise in pollution destroying the environment, players would be moved by knowing what they are playing is happening in the world around them.
Audacity week 5
My experience with Audacity came out to be an extremely difficult assignment. The program itself is not easy to navigate and the slightest of actions on the program will change every aspect of work to change. This was not an easy assignment in my eyes. Although I thought I had grasped this assignment in class on Monday, my attempt to do it by myself was much harder. As I attempted to work on Audacity by myself it became a project of constant back and forth trial and error, one minute I completed one step, then it had turned out I skipped a step or mistakenly done something wrong. As of now, having completing the assignment I definitely know I am better off than how I started. However if a future project is to arise using Audacity I feel as though I might need another review before I attempt it again. The program itself was difficult to navigate through, which lead me wondering if Garageband would have been any different. The video I had watched on ChannelAwesome.com gave me a new insight on the editing of videos. To start off the colors schemes chosen were very well chosen colors and the music to accompany the video in the background was just as nice. The one mechanism I noticed this video most often used was that of the green screen. During a moment in the video, colors in the background drastically change from an uplifting source of bright lighting, to incredibly dark, and in the moment the green screen was incredibly noticeable. Despite that the production itself, it was very well put together. They had only used a single angle camera, there wasn’t any complex editing that seemed to take place and the content itself was humorous.

In the modern era where there are so many jobs in which one’s appearance matters greatly, a tool like audacity or more specifically audio editing can come in great use. Audio editing can not only be useful for a job can also be used as a part of a hobby. There are a wide range of jobs and careers where something such as audio editing is a must. Take for instance musicians in a recording booth. Today’s artist have a great tool at their disposal to aid them in the sound of their voices. The man in the tutorial is prime example of one who could benefit from audio editing. Since it is impossible to see the instructor we can only hear him; therefore the sound of his voice would be the most crucial part of his work to perfect. Many times if an artist may have issues acquiring certain sounds, a tool such as audio editing can mask any blemishes or imperfections in the recording. Another form of occupation would be for those who dictate books to put in audio form. For a massive amount of time, those who read books for recordings are concentrating on the sound of their voice and if there should be a mishap, they can turn to audio editing to fix any problems. There are also many figures in television who may need to be portrayed in certain ways and any matters involving the audio portion of entertainment can be managed with this handy tool. As a hobby it shows its importance as well. We have seen previously for example in Photoshop how such a tool can alter images, now with a tool such as Audacity there can be changes in sound. Combining these two tools can be of great use if one is interested in such things.
